EDITOR'S NOTE: Many of the MUFON cases are being closed as an IFO - Identified Flying Object - as the photo and caption here state. But further investigation is being conducted due to the many witnesses from multiple states filing reports.
On the night of December 9, 2017, reports of a huge string of 12-20 lights in the sky, reported as red and flashing, were pouring into the local television stations in Colorado. The news teams were quick to report, not to worry, that the mystery was easily solved because some military guy stated there were exercises going on, originating in Charleston, South Carolina, around 7 p.m. and moving westward. Nothing to see here. And also, ha-ha-ha, it wasn’t Santa and his sleigh. They all said this because they are equally as clever as they are original.
Guess who else got lots of reports from that night? MUFON and the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC). Although some of the reported lights may fit easily into the military’s description of the event, but not all do. MUFON alone received 24 reports of a line of lights traveling across the sky on December 9. Also, MUFON is working with the NUFORC to see if there is something more going on – because that is our job. We are putting together a timeline and plotting the incidents. Most notable are the similar reports of lights coming in all the way from Montana and even Vancouver. There seem to be areas where the reports are the most concentrated – around the Missouri-Kansas border area, around central Colorado, and the southern Montana and Wyoming area.
And that’s what we do. We don’t just accept the proclamations of a newscaster without proof. We are reminded of the Phoenix Lights and how it was almost explained away by a simultaneous and coincidental “flare drop exercise” that seemed to appease those who don’t want to fathom the extraordinary vastness of space, but did not explain what thousands of eyewitnesses actually saw slowly traveling across hundreds of miles and over several hours. We do our own investigating, we make our phone calls, we gather the information, and we are delving deeper into this case. After gathering more facts, you’ll be the first to know if they were, in fact, merely a cross-country military exercise, something unknown, a mixture of the two, or even … a mile-long string of cloned Rudolphs practicing for the big night.
