Historical Background In 1862, President Lincoln determined that the existing railroad network from Iowa should be extended to the Pacific coast at San Francisco. Then, California Governor Leland Stanford (founder of Stanford University), Charles Crocker (a founder of Central Pacific Railroad), Collis Huntington (railroad builder) and Mark Hopkins (a founder of Central Pacific Railroad) answered the call. Known as the “Big Four,” they proposed to build the connecting rail line primarily funded by the US Government. Investing relatively little funds of their own and using a great deal of persuasion, a deal was struck. The operators were to be Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads. As an incentive, the Big Four received the rights to the land under the rail line and extending out 20 miles on each side. Elon Musk and the “Railway to the Stars” What is Elon Musk’s grand plan? Elon Musk, the Chief Executive of SpaceX, plans to populate our Solar System. [That sentence should probably be followed by at least one exclamation mark. In truth, this is no joke.] Musk, who became an overnight billionaire on his website, PayPal, plans to populate the Solar System, starting with the Red Planet, Mars. Musk plans to design and build a spaceship, what he calls the BFR — “Big Falcon Rocket.” Musk unveiled a slightly scaled-down BFR on September 29, 2017 at the International Astronautical Conference in Adelaide, Australia. Musk’s stated plan is that the spaceship component would transport people on point-to-point suborbital flights or on missions to the Moon or Mars. READ MORE |

Well first he needs to remove and stop launching Spacex satellites. It's really nifty we have billionaires that want to spend their money on space exploration...however junking up space with thousands of his satellites is something else entirely. Personally I could care less if someone in Zambia Africa gets cell service....if they don't let them deal with it. But to be so arrogant as to assume we as a world want all these satellites in orbit without asking or voteing on it is absurd. It hampers astronomers and could cause a chain reaction collision takeing out all military and civilian satellites. Just like in the movie "Gravity". I have been told ...oh no that could never happen. I don't belive that. Space junk is already a problem...now you just added tens of thousands of more objects. This has never been done before. We don't know. We might wake up one morning with no t.v. or phones for years to come. Thank goodness he's not a madman.....doing a first strike on North Korea....or Russia could end us all. We live in a age where if you have a lot of money you can actually affect the whole world. We should be cautious just exactly who we allow to launch rockets. Just because you can afford a airplane doesent make you a good pilot.

One of the biggest compelling reasons for extending the railroad out west was GOLD!! Move the Native Americans out by ANY means necessary.....and put them on reservations. Then the white man can spread west by the thousands...no more slow wagons. And so they raped the land...gold ..silver...copper...beaver pelts...salmon...elk... buffalo....and giant redwood trees. The last two almost went extinct. Let's hope Mr.Musk doesn't repeat history. It didn't work well for the Indians. And I hope he realises that a virus or germ brought back from Mars or even the Moon could be just as fatal to humanity as the small pox contaminated blankets given to the indians by cruel white men trying to get rid of them. Don't let history repeat itself.
