There is no doubt Hurricane Irma affected each of MUFON's Field Investigators in Florida, but some were effected in greater ways.
Florida MUFON was blessed that none of our 39 MUFON Field Investigators in Florida were injured or worse. Many of our folks came out with little or no damage.
But one of our Florida MUFON Field Investigators has been left with a badly damaged home and property. The high cost of a mandatory evacuation plus the inability to return home immediately after the Hurricane is a huge burden to this family.
The field investigator’s county was devastated. This hard working MUFON member and his wife are public school teachers. The family includes two small children, a 4 year old and a baby.
This Field Investigator only has one need – a working generator. The local Electric Company has advised there will be random power outages over the next several months as power is completely restored to all residents. A generator is needed not only for the cleanup and restoration work, but also for the two small children.
A goal of $1000 has been set. This should be enough for a 7000-8000 watt generator, plus gas cans and gas.
The situation is worsened by a 40 mile drive, 80 miles round trip to find a working gas station. The closest location to pick up the generator requires a 285 mile round trip.
If you’d like to help, a GoFundMe account has been set up at https://www.gofundme.com/Florida-MUFON.
The family will be thankful for your support and anything you can afford to donate.
