​The MUTUAL UFO Network (MUFON) received a total of 622 UFO reports for the month of September, almost a 25% drop from August, where 430 originated in the U.S., according to statistics released October 1, 2017.

The U.S. was the top reporting country at 430; with Canada at 63 and United Kingdom at 29.

The three leading report states in September were California, 77 reports; Texas, 28; and New York, 26. Other states with 10 or more reports include: Florida, 21; Pennsylvania, 18; Arizona, 15; Colorado, Michigan and Washington, 13; Utah, 12; Kentucky, Illinois, and New Jersey, 11; and Ohio, Nevada, and Oregon with 10.
 
The Sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape at 115 cases. A Circle shape was the second-most reported at 51. A Star-like shape with 49 and a Triangle with 44. Cases where the object was less than 500 feet was 179, and 93 reports include testimony where the object was less than 100 feet.

Most impressively, there were 15 reports of UFOs landing, hovering or taking off. No entity reports were received.

The MUTUAL UFO Network (MUFON) received a total of 785 UFO reports for the month of July (an increase of 33% over June’s reports) where 593 originated in the U.S., according to statistics released August 1, 2017.

The U.S. was the top reporting country at 593 (a whopping increase of 40% over June’s reports); with Canada at 69 and United Kingdom at 36.

The three leading report states in July were California, 64 reports; Florida, 36; and New York, 31. Other states with 10 or more reports include: Texas, 30; Pennsylvania, 29; Arizona, 26; Ohio and Washington, 24; Michigan, 23; Missouri and New Jersey, 21; Oregon, 20; Illinois and Colorado, 14; Virginia, 13; Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, and Minnesota, 12; and Georgia and Tennessee with 10.
 
The Sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape at 141 cases. A Circle shape was the second-most reported at 63. A Star-like shape with 61 and a Triangle, 55. Cases where the object was less than 500 feet was 183, and 90 reports include testimony where the object was less than 100 feet.

Most impressively, there were 13 reports of UFOs landing, hovering or taking off. No entity reports were received.

Reports of UFO sightings to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) are on the rise showing a significant 18 percent increase between the months of April 2017 and May 2017, with Idaho and New Mexico being the statistical standouts.
 
“Although Idaho has five times the U.S. average of .9 reports per million population, New Mexico has been more than twice the U.S. average for five months in a row.” Robert Powell, MUFON’s Director of Research calculated.
 
Powell researched the number of the May 2017 UFO cases by state and weighed them by population. The national average was .9 sightings per million people. That’s like saying a city the size of Chicago would have an average of 3 UFO repots a month. Idaho had a reported 7 sightings, which equaled an amazing 4.39 reports per million. New Mexico, of course, held strong with 4 reports which is 1.92 reports per million and its neighbor, Nevada, was up there with 5 reports, or 1.81 reports per million.
 
MUFON accumulates cases during any given month, and then waits 30 days to allow cases for that month to also be reported the following month. Additional cases are added in the future as they are reported.

The U.S. was the top reporting country at 470; with United Kingdom at 38 and Canada at 35.

The three leading report states in May were California, 53 reports; Texas, 45; and Florida, 32. (which were the same top three for the previous month.) Other states with 10 or more reports include: Arizona, 22; Michigan, 18; Missouri, 17; Colorado and New York, 16; Illinois and Washington, 15; Oregon, 14; Ohio, 13; Alabama, Tennessee and Maine, 11; and Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Virginia, 10. 
 
The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape at 111 cases. A Circle shape was the second-most reported shape at 63. The Triangle with 56 and Disc, 54. Cases where the object was less than 500 feet was 197, and 105 reports include testimony that the object was less than 100 feet.

Most impressively, there were 31 reports of UFOs landing, hovering or taking off. One entity report was received.

Reports of UFOs continue at lower levels this year with March 2017 totals reported today by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

“U.S. totals reached 223 March cases which is .71 reports per million population,” according to Robert Powell, MUFON’s Director of Research. “These are cases that occurred during the month of March. We have not had a March that low since 2008.”

Powell reviewed March cases going back to 2008, when 671 reports were filed. The chart shows total first quarter cases from 2008 through 2017.

The MUTUAL UFO Network (MUFON) received a total of 529 UFO reports for the month of April where 343 originated in the U.S., according to statistics released May 1, 2017. Those numbers are down about 6 percent from the same reporting month in 2016.

The U.S. was the top reporting country at 343; with United Kingdom at 75 and Canada at 49.

The three leading report states in April were California, 53 reports; Texas, 26; and Florida, 23. Other states with 10 or more reports include: Michigan, 14; Arizona and New York, 13; Georgia and Pennsylvania, 11; and North Carolina and Ohio, 10.

Domestic UFO reports for the first quarter 2017 are down a staggering 32 percent as compared to the previous five years, according to Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Director of Research Robert Powell.

The MUFON witness database at mid-day March 31, 2017, is showing 992 UFO reports where the case occurred during January, February or March. During the five-year period 2012 through 2016 within the same three months, MUFON averaged receiving about 1,460 cases – showing a 32 percent dip in UFO reports.

Triangle-shaped UFOs accounted for about 9 percent of worldwide reports for 2016 – 511 cases as the second most popular shape reported to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).  Spheres were the most reported shape with 863 cases or about 15 percent. These numbers are based on 5,591 worldwide reports where the case occurred during 2016.

Reviewing all 2016 triangle cases, about 35 percent closed as an Unknown object – or 182 cases. From that group, 39 percent were cases reporting the object under 500 feet – 71 reports.

Like all good UFO reports, cases occur at random locations with little sense of why the objects are in certain areas. MUFON Members can read on for a triangle feature from our July 2016 UFO Journal that tracks 15 compelling cases from January 1, 2016, to May 21, 2016. Read the report.
