A California witness at San Diego reported watching a hovering, oval-shaped object at 20,000 feet that dove toward and the ground and stopped at 5,000 feet, according to testimony in Case 94827 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness was eastbound along Freeway 8 at 2:45 p.m. on September 9, 2018.
“I was approaching the College Avenue exit and I noticed a large white object in the sky at about 20,000 feet,” the witness stated. “It was just staying still. Then I noticed to the left end of it there was a black fin standing pretty tall. Trying to get an idea how big this thing was, I was looking around and saw an airplane coming into San Diego airport to the south of me. It was much closer to me, so I look at its size and then looked back at the object and the object was much farther away but it was four to five times bigger than the airplane.”
The object then quickly moved.
“Then, the object made a 45-degree dive toward the ground in a blink of an eye and stopped at about 5,000 feet. At the same time, it made the move it always stayed level. It was unbelievable how fast it moved. I have never seen anything move that fast. After that I was trying to watch it, but I was also driving down the freeway. The object hovered for a bit, then it started to move slowly to the south. I then pulled off the freeway in La Mesa. Got out of the car, but at that time I could not see it anymore.”
California MUFON Field Investigator Earl Grey Anderson closed this case as an Unknown Aerial Vehicle.

“The witness was lucid, sober, and eloquent in his description of the event, and I have no reason to believe that he was fabricating a story, or had mistaken a prosaic object for a UAP,” Anderson stated in his report. “The witness is not looking for fame, as he wishes to remain anonymous. The witness allowed this Field Investigator to examine his work badge during our Skype interview, and his badge is consistent with his story. Because the witness was able to recall his story without even the slightest deviation from his first and second interviews, I’m deeming that he was recalling an actual event, and not fabricating a story. The object described does not resemble any known conventional craft, nor do the flight characteristics described match any known craft.”
