It was November 5, 1975, when Travis Walton, Mike Rogers, Ken Peterson, John Goulette, Allen Dalis, Steve Pierce, and Dwayne Smith observed this unusual, unexplainable light in the forest ahead of them. On closer inspection, the men could see that the light was coming from a soundless, motionless, metallic craft. In a manner of seconds, a curious Walton had leapt from the truck to get a closer look, and before the men knew it, the craft sent forth some kind of energy beam which struck Walton, sent him flying through the air, and left him lying lifeless on the ground. Scared witless and fearing the worst, the crew took off, only to return a short while later and find that Walton had disappeared!
Once the crew had returned to town and notified authorities, Walton’s disappearance became local, then national, then international news. A massive manhunt was launched to no avail. After accusations of foul play began circulating, the crew took and passed lie detector tests. But it was Walton’s reappearance, 5 days later, looking disheveled, disoriented, and distressed, and relating a strange tale involving human and non-human like beings with huge dark eyes, which propelled the story into notoriety, and eventually became the subject of the 1993 film "Fire in the Sky," written by Tracy Torme.
