CAPE CANAVERAL - SpaceX launched its next batch of 60 satellites from launch complex 39A on Wednesday, April 22nd. This brings the total count to 420. The latest launch took place over the North Atlantic and placed the satellites into orbit only 15-minutes after launch. This was the 4th trip for the Falcon's first stage booster which returned safely to its landing on a SpaceX drone ship waiting off the Florida coast.
The project is designed to enable high-bandwidth, low-latency internet services for many countries worldwide. SpaceX intends to place nearly 1600 satellites in orbits at heights of 341-miles above the Earth. Motivation for this project includes vying for an estimated $16 billion dollars from the FCC for improvements to rural internet services which are intended to start this year with expansion globally through 2021.
