On the scary side of UFO encounters – beyond just being frightened by a large hovering object, or seeing multiple UFOs carousing nearby – there are those few cases where the object actually seems to be following or chasing the witness.
From the 241 cases logged into UFO Cases of Interest: 2018 Edition, there were seven cases where the witness reported the object followed them, based on reporting data from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
A Virginia witness at Bastian reported watching a rectangular-shaped object that descended to about 300 or 400 feet off the ground, according to testimony in Case 82503.
The witness was picking up her 16-year-old daughter from a school function at 8:30 p.m. on March 3, 2017.
“We started back home,” the witness stated. “When we reached the top of the mountain, I noticed a super bright star on my left just above the mountain ahead. We live in the valley between these two mountains. As we descended the first mountain, the object started descending along the side of the opposite mountain. There is only one road over there on that mountain that it was on. And it is a very rough fire track which is locked by the National Forest Service at this time of year.”
When the witness first saw the object, they were at 2,900 feet.
“We descended to about 2,100 feet and it descended along with us until it appeared to be maybe 300 or 400 feet above us. It seemed to almost touch the ground at times. At other times it moved along just ahead of us and would be in the forest because I could see trees outlined in front of it.”
As the witness traveled up the valley along the creek, the object moved along with the vehicle.
Virginia MUFON Dianna Paulsen closed this case as an Unknown UAV. Bastian is an unincorporated community in Bland County, Virginia.
A Washington witness at Sunnyside reported a slow-moving, triangle-shaped object that followed his vehicle along a rural roadway, according to testimony in Case 83989.
The witness had just gotten off work and was driving home at 10:50 p.m. on May 25, 2017, when the incident began.
“I take the back roads home and got on Factory Road outside of Sunnyside, Washington,” the witness stated. “After about three minutes or so traveling down the road, I noticed an orange light near two red lights in a triangular pattern. The orange light was blinking.”
The witness immediately thought the object was a Chinook helicopter.
“I found it strange how low it was to the ground and the lack of sound. I also noticed it was traveling a bit fast to be a helicopter. It flew from south to north.”
The witness then thought that the object might be a drone.
“My speed was about 50 mph, though I was slowing down not wanting to get too close to the object. It crossed the road in front of me and then I proceeded to pass it. I found it to strange – it grabbed my curiosity. An oncoming car passed me, and once it did I pulled into a dirt driveway and turned around – doing a U-turn. I quickly drove back and found that it was out in the same area I had left it.”
The witness then slowed down in the middle of the road with no place to pull over.
“I simply stopped in the middle of road – now able to see a mile in front of me and behind me. I was facing west with my back to the east. It seemed to stop flying south and began to fly west.”
The witness quickly reached for his smartphone and pulled up the camera app.
“I began to record as I drew closer. This was when I noticed a white light, much like a star starting to fly down from above it and near the object. It quickly got my attention as it quickly stopped again and turned 90-degrees and flew south across the road again. Once it had done this, it began to fly west.”
The object was then flying parallel to the road and began to make the witness afraid.
“Though it stopped and then began to fly northwest from its location towards me, I became overwhelmed with fear knowing this wasn't a plane or a helicopter. Having both my windows down, I would have heard something. I threw my phone in the passenger seat and began to speed off. As I began to pass it, I came as close as I ever was to the object.”
The witness described the object.
“It was a gray triangle, with three orange lights and one red, glowing light in the middle with two small, green lights near the rear. It was hovering. I am now driving back from where I had come from. Heading into Sunnyside on Factory Road. I reached a speed of 97 mph and quickly began to slow down. I felt safer near town, though, now that it was nearly 11 p.m. and no one would be around.”
But that safe feeling quickly dissolved.
“I turned left onto Handford Road, and before getting to Vakima Valley Highway, I turned left onto another road that was near a car dealership and stopped again to see if I could see the object. It was flying west again and was in the same light configuration as when I first saw it – with one blinking, orange light and two red ones. I watched it fly for a short time before it began to fly southwest and I didn't want it getting too close again. I got back onto Handford Road and onto Yakima Valley Highway driving towards Grandview.”
But once the witness arrived home and got of his vehicle, he saw the craft again.
“It had followed me approximately six miles and was flying southeast, though, I did not turn and I watched it fly in that direction until it was out of sight. I thought about following it, but didn't want to push my luck as I began to feel afraid again. When I reviewed the video I recorded, the object was not captured due to it being too dark outside, and had stop recording without me pressing pause as I passed the object.”
Sunnyside is a city in Yakima County, Washington, population 15,858. Washington MUFON State Director James Clarkson investigated and closed this case as an Unknown.
“I would point out this case was near the Hanford Nuclear Reservation,” Clarkson stated in his report. “Given the highly unusual shape and lighting configuration, and the lack of sound when the witness had parked his car with all of the windows down, I am classifying this case as a true UAV with a highly credible witness.”
A Tennessee witness at Latham reported watching a series of orb UFOs, including objects that will follow vehicles, according to testimony in Case 84207.
The witness mentions different sightings, but specifically points out a case that occurred at 5:15 a.m. on June 4, 2017.
“We have been seeing lights in the sky now for months,” the witness stated. “Then in the past month it has turned into the lights and now orange balls of lights following us when we’re in vehicles or even feet away when on foot.”
The events are not continuous but pop up now and then.
“It doesn't happen every night, but I can look over and tell my brother I feel it and guaranteed sometime that night something will happen. The feeling is of something right behind you, strikes pure fear in you.”
The witness discussed the events of June 4.
“We went to investigate the lights in the woods we've been seeing. We got to the wood line and the lights started moving towards us. Once one of them got approximately 15 to 20 feet away, I could see standing approximately seven feet tall, a grey, smooth-skinned, alien-looking being walking towards us. The lights we'd been seeing were its eyes. It also seemed to illuminate a dim light around it. This terrified us so we backed off. I have many videos and audio of unexplained lights and events.”
Tennessee MUFON State Director Angelia Sheer and Assistant State Director Josh Cross closed this case as an Unknown – Other. Latham is an unincorporated community in Weakley County, Tennessee.
A Missouri witness at Christian County reported watching a “glowing structure that appeared above a house after a flash of three lights, according to testimony in Case 85508.
The events occurred beginning at 9:45 p.m. on July 29, 2017.
“We live out in the country in the Ozark-Rogersville area,” the witness stated. “During the day, a friend and I lit a fire. My friend noticed a plane-like structure off in the distance emitting red lights. The sky was clear with hardly a cloud, but I couldn't see what she was seeing, even after moving behind her into her field of vision. We laugh about it and moved along. This was approximately 5-6 p.m. Central Time.”
About 9 p.m., the two decided to leave.
“After locking the house and loading the dog into the car, my friend and I sat down in the front seats of the car, ready to start the ignition. I then see a flash of three, bright, white lights in my peripheral vision. They were stacked like a triangle, with two lights on the bottom and one on top. I immediately got out of the car to get closer to the object that appeared after the flash of lights. My friend, on the other hand, told me she was so scared for her life that she didn't move from her passenger seat in the vehicle.”
The witness described the object they were seeing.
“The object that appeared above the house was about 500 feet from us, and about 50-60 feet up in the air. It was unlike anything I've ever seen. It appeared hollow, but not like any hollow 3D structure in that I couldn't detect a definite inside edge. There were bright, white lights on the structure that appeared to glow from the inside out. Initially, I believed it to be helicopter-sized. I started yelling to my friend, ‘What is that?’ That is when this object stopped hovering above the house and changed directions, coming right toward us in our car. It appeared to be getting smaller the closer it got to us, but never smaller than about 15x15 feet. About 50 feet before our car, this object descends down towards us in a U-shape, then corrects itself and gains elevation. At its lowest point in the descent, I thought it might hit our car and I was afraid for my life – it was no more than 30 feet directly above the top of our car. It then regained its initial elevation of maybe 50 feet and disappeared into the tree line at the edge of the property. We immediately turned on the car, pulled out onto the main road and attempted to see it again, but it had disappeared. The most interesting part of this was not only the almost indescribable shape, but that it seemed to know we were leaving the property. It's very obvious (and terrifying) lurch towards our car was either on purpose (maybe to scare us?) or the result of whatever was operating it losing control of the structure. Either way, this appeared and disappeared out of nowhere with a clear intent that we should see it. Additionally, this object was completely silent and appeared incredibly aerodynamic. It wasn't inherently malevolent, but also didn't appear to be particularly friendly or welcoming. I honestly love reading about UFOs, but now that I have actually seen one, I wish I hadn't. This was a very scary experience.”
Missouri MUFON State Section Director Emmett Reary closed this case as an Unknown – Other.
An Iowa witness at Exira reported watching a low-flying triangle-shaped object that began following him, according to testimony in Case 85523.
The witness was on his way to work at 4:30 a.m. on July 31, 2017.
“I was heading west out of Exira, on F58,” the witness stated. “Roughly four miles west I saw some bright lights coming from the southwest. I pulled over because at first, I thought it was an airplane but there is no airport for 10 miles. It was so low to the ground I thought it was going to land. There were no blue or red blinking lights. It did have a big white orb on the bottom that did blink.”
The object flew over the witness and continued on a northeast path.
“I kept going down the highway for another mile and realized it was now following me. I pulled over, but it would not come closer and just hovered about a quarter-mile away. I proceeded to drive to work five miles north of Kimballton, Iowa. It didn't matter what direction I drove. I could tell it was following me. Once I got to work, it was now a long ways away and it just hovered the entire time. I tried taking a couple of pictures but two did not turn out. Only one did and that was from a far distance and it only looks like a very bright star or planet.”
Iowa MUFON State Director Gregory Andersen closed this case as an Unknown Aerial Vehicle.
“I feel that the witness actually saw a triangular craft and that the light he saw after the initial sighting was actually a star or planet,” Andersen wrote in his report. Exira is a city in Audubon County, Iowa, population 840.
An Indiana witness at Macy reported a low flying, cylinder-shaped object moved very close to her vehicle, according to testimony in Case 85780.
The witness was driving at 10:45 p.m. on August 5, 2017.
“I continued to drive but lost sight of them because of homes and trees,” the witness stated. “Once there was an opening, I noticed them closer to me. One of the lights came very close to me. It came so close that it was directly above me to the left. I could look out my window and see up underneath it. The outer surface was not visible but what I did see was what appeared to be some sort of cylinder shape (tube) item shooting off a flame.”
The witness said she could only compare it to a flare.
“But there were no sparks coming from this item. It was giving off a flame that was a reddish-orange color. The flame was smooth and flowed like a fountain. It did not react as a flare would. The lights did not shoot straight up in the sky, giving off sparks and then falling back down. These items traveled horizontally but they were way above the tree line up in the sky. As the light came near me, I was trying to pull over on the road and tried to get my phone all at the same time to take a picture.”
But by the time the witness put the car in park and grabbed her phone, the object had already traveled away from her.
“I did get pictures but not when it was very close to me. I was not fearful because it appeared and then it went away and it was not large. I sat in my car and watched them travel high in the sky heading north. I watched the lights travel north until they faded away. I wish that I would have videotaped the lights rather than taking pictures. I guess it was spur of the moment and I wasn't thinking.”
Indiana MUFON former State Director Stewart I. Hill and State Director Jeremy Efroymson closed this case as an Unknown – Other. Macy is a town in Allen Township, Miami County, Indiana, population 209.
A Scottish witness at Kincardine reported watching a “metallic triangle with red and green lights,” according to testimony in Case 89005.
The witness was driving northbound along M896 toward the Kincardine Bridge at 9:40 p.m. on December 23, 2017.
“We saw a triangular, metallic object approximately 500 to 100 feet in the air with red and green flashing light on it,” the witness stated. “It also had a continuous white light illuminating the undercarriage and a solid red light toward the rear. The object was as clear as day. I am ex-military and I know my aircraft. This was nothing I have ever seen before. It proceeded to follow my car as my partner was hanging out the window looking at it. As we kept driving, I could see it in my nearside wing mirror as my partner was still looking at it. As we pulled off the motorway and turned to our left, the sky was completely empty. Not a light in the sky apart from the two pylons that were there before.”
British MUFON Field Investigator Karl Webb closed this case as an Unknown Aerial Vehicle.
A quite stereotypical triangular craft that is becoming more common by the day,” Webb stated in his report. “Having checked this sighting on media search, there unfortunately appears to be no other independent witnesses to this sighting. That said, the witness in this instance has more credibility than most due to him being ex-military particularly in the field that he was in. In addition, we have his partner in the car with him who clearly saw the triangular object also. The craft, based on description alone, was certainly not a known terrestrial craft. That said, we are well into the realms of not easily defining what is our own stealth technology and what is alien. I have always maintained that if our military was going to test a potentially covert craft why would they do it in a high populous area. That said, disinformation comes in wonderful packages.”
Kincardine is a small town on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, in Fife, Scotland.
