Excerpt: "Project Blue Book is the last time the federal government claimed they studied UFOs but we suspect they never stopped," says Roger Marsh, spokesman for Mutual UFO network.
Marsh says 90% of the sightings their organization receives can be explained, but 5-10% of the cases are unresolved.

While I can’t possibly cover everything that transpired during the five days I recently spent in the Arizona desert, I will try to share some personal thoughts about my Boot Camp experience. This article is proof that I survived it!
On Monday, October 20, 2014, an assortment of Field Investigators descended upon the Arizona desert for MUFON’s first-ever Boot Camp. Our group was very diverse: scientists and technical “experts” with impressive credentials and resumes, seasoned STAR Team members, Board members, State Directors, Assistant State Directors, and a few general members--all certified Field Investigators with varying amounts of case experience. Scattered within our group were even a few newly-certified Field Investigators who had yet to work a case. We had all been drawn to the desert for two reasons: to learn more about UFO investigative techniques and to get hands-on experience working different types of cases…all under the tutelage of some of MUFON’s elite.
Construction of a “new, global UFO database” was announced today by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), according to Executive Director Jan C. Harzan.
“The new system has been designed to capture UFO reports, display the data, and find answers,” Harzan said. “Now we need to build it.”
The announcement comes as MUFON launches a Kickstarter campaign to raise $78,000 in funding.
As the world’s oldest and largest investigative body into the UFO phenomenon, MUFON promotes “the scientific study of UFOs.”
The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) expresses its deepest sympathy on the Friday, October 31, 2014, crash of the Virgin Galactic spaceship in the Mojave Desert.
The spacecraft suffered a "major malfunction" killing one of the two pilots. The Associated Press reported that the SpaceShipTwo exploded shortly after it was released from the WhiteKnight aircraft that carried it, causing it to crash near Cantil in Kern County, California. The pilot was able to eject to safety. The co-pilot suffered fatal injuries.
"Virgin Galactic should be saluted as pioneers in space travel and this accident is a shock to all of us interested in the success of private space flight," said MUFON Executive Director Jan C. Harzan, reached at his Newport Beach, CA, headquarters office today. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both pilots and to the entire Virgin Galactic team."
According to the Virgin Galactic website: "The first WhiteKnightTwo, christened VMS Eve after Richard Branson's mother, was revealed to the public for the first time in July 2008 and started its test flight program later that year. At the first roll-out in Mojave it was described as an aviation milestone and for good reason: it is the largest all carbon composite aviation vehicle ever built and the most fuel efficient of its size. It has a unique capability to carry heavy payload (around 35,000 lbs) to high altitude (around 50,000 ft) and a range of over 2,000 nautical miles. Remarkably, for a vehicle of its size, it is also capable of performing high and zero g maneuvers."
