The 2015 MUFON Symposium is just weeks away and the excitement is already beginning to build. We’ve added a number of exciting new events including the “Hangar 1” Hangout on Saturday night hosted by LA Radio personality Jimmy Church. “Hangar 1’s” Executive Producer Paul Villadolid will be there along with Henry Capanna, CEO for Go Go Luckey Productions, and the entire production staff who developed the show. Cast members who will be at the hangout include Ben Moss, Michael Bara, Jeremy Ray, Lee Speigel, Tony Angiola, Melissa Tittl, John Ventre, Jan Harzan, and many others. Even more exciting is the fact that key witnesses from the show will be there to share their incredible experiences with you in person!
The countdown to the 2015 MUFON Symposium is well underway with six weeks and counting until kickoff at the Hotel Irvine, in Southern California, on Friday night September 25th. But before I write about the many exciting things that will be happening at this year’s Symposium I have a major announcement for those of you who have never been to a MUFON Symposium, as well as those who have been coming for years. I am pleased to announce that we are uploading the last 10 years of MUFON Symposium speakers to the MUFON YouTube Channel. You may access it from MUFON.COM by clicking on the YouTube icon on the top-right side of the screen (it’s the red one right after Facebook and Twitter). Now you can watch your favorite Symposium speakers anytime you want, and all for FREE! If you see something you like and would like a DVD copy for your personal library, just go to the MUFON Store and order it online. Or give us a call at 949-47M-UFON and we’ll take care of you. I hope you find this as exciting and thrilling as I do! In fact, I’m listening to one now. So what about the 2015 MUFON Symposium?
Besides the many great speakers which you can check-out at MUFONSymposium.com, we have a number of exciting Special Events including One-on-One with Paul Hellyer, former Defense Minister for Canada. Mr. Hellyer is the only cabinet member of a G7 nation, or any nation for that matter, to come forward and clearly state that “UFOs are as real as the airplane’s overhead.” He not only knows this to be true, he is dead set on getting action from governments around the world to come clean on this very important subject. I wholeheartedly support him. Another special event will be Experiencer Workshops on Saturday and Sunday mornings hosted by our Director of Experiencer Research, Kathleen Marden. These will be limited to 20 experiencers each and will be an opportunity to develop coping skills to overcome feelings of isolation related to one's ET contact experience and will offer a safe, non-judgmental environment, for experiencers who want to talk about their events. For more information on these great opportunities go to MUFONSymposium.com and sign-up now!
I was pleased to be able to announce our final speaker for the 2015 MUFON Symposium recently. As you know our theme this year is “Expanding Ufology: Opening NEW Doors in Academia, Industry and Media.” Our newest speaker comes from industry, the Aerospace Industry specifically, and will be sharing his personal research into advanced propulsion and faster than light travel. Why is this important? Well, very simply because if we as Earthlings can figure out how to get there (light-years from Earth), then certainly beings who are our equal, or even 100 years more advanced than us, have the means to get here. This will be a major breakthrough in the whole UFO question and will settle the argument many scientists now make that, “Well of course there is other life in the universe, but it is billions of light-years away and could never get here!”
Greg V. Meholic will be taking us through the evolution of propulsion technology and the fantastic research that is being done by NASA, DARPA and individual researchers around the world looking for the ultimate technology that will allow us to go Interstellar as a civilization. It is exciting stuff and coming straight from one who knows. You won’t want to miss this exciting lecture by Greg.
The theme for this year’s Symposium is “Expanding Ufology: Opening NEW Doors in Academia, Industry and the Media.” Doing this is important for a number of reasons, the main one being that without academia, industry, and the media’s help we will continue to struggle to solve the long running UFO mystery. More importantly, if we are in fact, knowingly or unknowingly, interacting with advanced civilizations, then the scientific breakthroughs from these interactions offer potentially huge positive returns for us as human beings. Why not advance our science and our wellbeing on this planet by observing and copying the technology these craft and their occupants display?
So how DO we go about expanding ufology? And what exactly does this mean. Well for starters it’s time we got out of our usual rut of just talking to ourselves, by that I mean those of us in the “UFO community,” and start talking to people in academia and industry, as well as the media about topics related to the subject of UFOs. People in these areas don’t necessarily have to believe in UFOs, or ETs, they just have to have an open mind and be willing to look at the data. And in many cases they are already working on projects related to life on other planets, or exotic technologies, which directly relate to the UFO subject.
The MUFON Files comprise 46 years of case files, as well as hundreds of research documents on the UFO subject. Now it’s time to do some serious research with all this information. Not that serious research hasn’t been done in the past, but now, with good hard data thanks to CMS, it’s time to relook at this mystery under a new set of lens. Understanding the UFO phenomenon is not an easy task, but without research peeling back the layers of the phenomenon one layer at a time, we will never find the answers we truly seek. That’s why we have a goal to “Promote Research on the UFO Phenomenon” and the reason why MUFON has a Director of Research, Robert Powell, and a Director of Experiencer Research, Kathleen Marden; to focus on the hard data of UFO sightings and the personal experiences that people report having with these craft and their occupants respectively. It’s also time we expand the breadth and depth of UFO research outside of the UFO field, to industry, universities, and private research organizations to help us supercharge this very important research work.
The Research we are doing at MUFON begins with analyzing the data we receive each month and trying to understand what it is telling us by looking for trends in the data. Robert Powell, MUFON Director of Research, and his team are working on this, and trying to bring the power of the computer to bear identifying trends. A second research team headed by Clifford Clift is working to bring order to our older paper files so they can be indexed and computerized. And of course each month, the Top-10 sub-team is crawling through the last month of completed UFO reports to find the very best cases to be considered for our annual top 10 report. Just this past month we announced a new team, the “Project Orange Team” to map out and identify orb clusters, behaviors, and their possible causes. The project is being led by MUFON Utah State Director Erica Lukes, Pennsylvania FI Terry Ray, New Jersey FI Bob Spearing, and Washington State Director James Clarkson, with the guidance of the Science Advisory Board. These are just a sampling of research projects underway at MUFON in the area of UFO sightings.
I am pleased to announce the 2015 MUFON Symposium website is now available. One may access it by going to MUFONSymposium.com. Or directly from the MUFON.com website by clicking on the Symposium Slider on the Home Page.
We have an exciting line-up of speakers this year as well as some terrific Special Events that will provide an exciting time for all who attend. But even before that happens, one of the most exciting things is the $50 million renovation of the Hotel Irvine completed just three months ago. They have completely redone the interior and exterior of the hotel including adding a high tech grocery store in the middle of the hotel where one can shop and get great prices on food items and more. I was impressed with the huge selection of food and drinks they carry as well as the deli and grill where food can be ordered anytime of the day or night at prices that are extremely competitive. Pretty amazing for a 5-star hotel. I know you’ll love it. Another feature is the 21st Century looking bar and lounge as well as outside fire pit and patio that are sure to be places frequented by attendees wishing to gather and discuss the latest UFO lecture or UFO/ ET sighting reports.
We have had several very important announcements over the past three weeks that I would like to highlight in this month’s Director’s Message because of their importance to the organization. The first is the creation of a NEW position in MUFON: Director of Field Investigator Development and Training; the second is the announcement of a new STAR Team manager; and the third is the creation of a Special Assignment Team. Let me discuss each announcement in more detail below.
By now you know that the 2015 MUFON Symposium will be September 24-27, 2015, at the newly renovated Hotel Irvine in Southern California. A lavish and well-appointed 5-Star resort, formerly the Hyatt Regency, now owned and run by billionaire Donald Bren and the Irvine Company. Donald is the principle shareholder of the Irvine Company – a Southern California land development company that owns a huge chunk of land in Southern California from the Newport coast to the mountains. Learn more at irvinecompany.com.
So why is this important? Well, the Irvine Company just spent over $50 million renovating the hotel and making it into a showcase for the 21st Century. It is certainly worthy of its 5-Star designation. Once you step through the front doors everything is run from one’s smart phone. From Internet access, to ordering food or drinks, checking conference schedules, to ordering room service, you name it and you will be able to get the information you need, order the food you want, or get whatever service one is looking for, all by using one’s smart phone or tablet. It is designed to be the world’s smartest hi-tech hotel. And all this for a special MUFON room rate of $119 per night including FREE in-room Internet and FREE overnight parking. You can’t beat this deal for 5-Star luxury!
The New Year is off to a new and exciting start for all of us at MUFON and I must say, we have a very bright year ahead of us. Let me share with you some of the exciting things that are already underway for 2015.
First, as most of you know we are moving full speed ahead with implementing the “NEW Global UFO Database” featured in our December Kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately, we did not hit our fundraising goal of $78,000 – which means all the money pledged through the Kickstarter website went back to all the donors, and not to MUFON. Despite this set-back, the good news is, we have been able to raise nearly $20,000 to date, from money sent directly to MUFON headquarters in support of the project. This means that we have the funds to begin the project and get things moving in the right direction, which is outstanding. In addition, we are continuing to fundraise through our website during the first half of 2015 to ensure this important project is fully funded. If you have already contributed to the “NEW Global UFO Database” project, I want to personally thank you for your donation and support. Your enthusiasm and confidence in MUFON, and this project, are greatly appreciated. If you haven’t had a chance to donate, NOW is your chance! Please know that your donation, in any amount, will go a long way toward changing the course of Ufology and bringing us closer to the answers we all seek. To donate, go toMUFON.COM and click on the project donation button, or drop a check in the mail to us at 3822 Campus Drive, Suite 201 in Newport Beach, CA, 92660. Again, please accept my personal thank you for your support.
I had the opportunity to attend the Starworks USA Conference in Laughlin, Nevada, produced by Paola Harris, with the help of Bob Brown, former owner of the International UFO Congress (IUFOC) this past weekend and it was a lot of fun meeting people and hearing everyone’s point of view on the topic of “UFOs, Technology and our Place in the Universe,” which was the theme for this year’s conference. Grant Cameron, Jaime Maussan, Paul Davids, and Chase Kloetzke all headlined the conference speaker list along with many others including a guest appearance by Coast2Coast radio personality George Noory . In short, a fun time was had by all.
So why do I bring this up? Well, it got me thinking that everyone who is in this field plays a special part, their part, it’s not us against them, it is we together. Collectively, all of us are a force for change on this planet whether you are an individual follower of the UFO phenomenon, a small group leader, a multinational non-profit, or a for profit enterprise interested in UFOs and intelligent life in the universe. One of the speakers described it as a grand chess game with each of us a piece on the chess board. But whose game is it? Is it being directed from above? Or is it totally free will with everyone working independently for the same common good? That is a question for which we may never have the answer. Perhaps a far better question to ask is “what is my part?” “Where do I, or my organization, fit into the grand scheme of things?” “How can I make a difference?” It might be something as simple as inviting a friend to one of these conferences, or just talking to your neighbor about their view of life in the universe and whether or not that life might be visiting us now or in the past. Great things start with a simple conversation and then grow from there.
